Ray-Ban has designed shiny new 18K gold aviators, costing $3,800 (£ 2,384), for you to add to your someday-when-I'm-rich wish list. The new style sunnies look uncomfortably similar to their original shades. Yes, the ones that cost roughly £100 to £200.
There will only be 1,200 solid gold frames created, surely adding to the aviators' luxe appeal for some.
But Ray-Ban isn't the only brand upping the ante on protective eyewear. Earlier this week Cheryl Cole was spotted sporting mirrored shades to the tune of £1,000. Apparently celebs don't worry about breaking, losing or sitting on their accessories.
But we could be missing the point. According Ray-Ban, the "prestige of the new model is apparent to anyone who sees them - and even more so to those who wear them". Are you convinced?
